Gallery Existential
Figures hold a great deal of interest for me. They are a vehicle to express my thoughts and feelings. Over the years, my figures have continued to evolve through different modes of presentation, but they continue to be charged with emotions and energy.
I tend to present my figures in colours not relevant to any flesh tone, and without any trappings of ethnic, cultural or racial particulars. In other words, I am focused on speaking about the emotional experience of the human spirit, in pure terms. No doubt I am equally concerned with the pains and anguish of racial and cultural issues; this section, however, addresses purely the experience of “being human”.
Footnote to the Sojourn series: The figures are shown breaking through a barrier, to emerge into the foreground. These paintings speak to the monumental effort of breaking with the old in order to embrace the new.
